Dear Members and Friends, |
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying your golf! I’m writing to you from Canada, where I’m currently guiding Stellenbosch Golf Club visually impaired golfer, Prof Garrett Slattery, in Simcoe, Ontario. But before I dive into that, let me share a few updates from the past few weeks. |
Coaching Recognition and Why It Matters to Every Golfer |
I’m humbled and honoured to have recently received the Western Cape High Performance Coach of the Year Award, voted for by my peers. While this is a great recognition, I want to emphasise that high performance doesn’t only apply to elite players. Every golfer has their own unique high-performance level, and our mission is to help unlock it faster than ever before. Modern coaching and technology aren’t just for the pros – even beginners are benefiting a lot from the tools we now have available! |
George Coetzee’s visit and the SA Open |
Two weeks ago, we had the privilege of working with George Coetzee, a five-time European Tour winner and 15-time Sunshine Tour winner. Thanks to the help and generosity of our technology partners at FlightScope, I’m able to dig deeper into otherwise invisible movement patterns and uncover new insights into his game through the use of the country’s first Swing Catalyst 3D Motion Plate.
With the SA Open returning to Stellenbosch in February, we’re excited to now also being able to support top players like George. Thanks to FlightScope’s continued support, we’ve also been able to uncover the root cause of Richard Sterne’s career-threatening injuries, which is giving this hugely talented player another chance. I am truly excited about what all of this can mean for the next generation of golfers – it can save them – and anyone – so much time, frustration and even pain. |

Supporting Garrett and Blind Golf – and Then Learning Even More |
Not only am I so grateful and fortunate to coach at our great club and to work with FlightScope, but also to be a part of our visually impaired member, Prof Garrett Slattery’s golfing career. For this, our ninth international campaign, we’re at the 2025 ISPS Handa Canadian Open and IBGA World Blind Golf Championships. It’s always a privilege to not only support Garrett, but to also keep witnessing the amazing stories of all of these people not letting their challenges get them down, and the camaraderie is unbelievable. As you read this, we have already secured the overall low net prize for the Canadian Open, now let’s see what we can do in the World Championships which conclude on Friday. Should anyone else fancy dragging me along to their golfing events, don’t hesitate asking!
After the event and witnessing the nearby Niagara Falls, I’m using the opportunity to spend two days with Terry Rowles in Hudson, New York. Terry is a Top 50 coach and leading innovator, who works closely with Hall of Fame mentor Mike Adams, whom I visited and learnt so much from after our 2022 campaign. I’m eager to sharpen my skills even further with Terry and bring those insights back and apply them to each playing level. |

A Closing Glimpse from Canada |

Always a first time for everything – I’ve never seen black squirrels before! |
Enjoy your golf and see you soon again,
