It was a unanimous decision on Wednesday night at the Special General Meeting for the proposed upgrades and changes to the golf course to host the Investec SA Open in February 2026 – now only 38 weeks away.
It is all systems go with the Journey to the Investec SA Open…
Construction on the 18th hole and putting green will commence on Monday, 2 June. For the first couple of days your closing hole will play as a par 3 from the 18th tee box to the nursery green. We hope to have the bulk earthworks completed by the 10th and will then make use of a temporary green cut behind the fairway bunker on the 18th hole, playing as a par 4 again. From time to time, we might have to play the hole as a par 3 due to the construction. Players will be advised on this on the day of play. The little frustration will all be worth it once we all enjoy the “new” 18th hole and practice putting green.
The course will play as a true championship course at 6600m, par 70 for the event. Personally, I think it is going to be a beast of a course.
Who will ever forget 1999 when Stellenbosch GC last hosted the SA Open – the very dramatic watery finish of Sven Struver – who sadly knocked it in the water on the 72nd hole? What will happen in 2026? Jean Hugo played the event as an amateur and finished in the top 10 – pretty impressive to kickstart his very successful professional golfing career. |
