Please note that in preparation of the 115th Investec SA Open construction work is being undertaken on the 18th hole, resulting in this hole be played to a temporary green It is expected that the construction work will be completed by the end of August 2025 Thank you for your patience and support during our journey to the 115th Investec SA Open.

Par 3 Challenge first. Black course next!

Fore!
It already feels like the Investec SA Open has faded… and the golf course has slowly (and bravely) returned to something resembling “normal” playing conditions. That said, if you’ve ventured into the rough recently, you’ll know it’s still holding on to a bit of tournament attitude. We’re easing it down week by week, so hang in there, your golf balls will soon stop disappearing without a trace.

For those looking for a new challenge (and perhaps a new excuse), we’re introducing the Black Course, stretching to a formidable 6616m. This one is definitely not for the faint-hearted — it’s designed for the highly skilled golfer… or the overly optimistic. You’ve been warned.

With all the exciting upgrades — new tees, improved bunkering, and subtle tweaks across the course — we’ve been working closely with GolfRSA to re-rate the course. Distances are changing, which means slope and ratings will follow suit. Add to that the wealth of data from ScoreCapture and the SA Open stroke averages, and we’re in a fantastic position to fine-tune things properly. By factoring in both scratch and bogey golfers, we aim to ensure a fair (and honest!) reflection of the course. We’re hoping to welcome the GolfRSA rater in the coming weeks, with updated strokes, slope, and ratings expected shortly after hollowtining. Exciting times indeed.

Speaking of which, hollowtining is scheduled for 13–17 April. As always, it’s essential maintenance to keep our greens in top condition (even if it temporarily tests your putting patience). We’re currently arranging reciprocity with neighbouring courses and will share those details soon, so you won’t be without your golf fix.

The Stellenbosch Suzuki Challenge is building nicely toward what promises to be a thrilling final in July. With only the best 6 scores counting from rounds played since last year, it’s still very much game on. A big thank you once again to Suzuki Stellenbosch for their continued support. We appreciate it greatly.

Time to Parthree!
With the first major of the year around the corner, The Masters, it’s time to bring back a favourite: the PAR 3 Competition, taking place on Friday, 10 April. If history is anything to go by, expect great shots, near misses, and a few “how did that not go in?” moments. Start sharpening those wedges and rolling a few putts, and remember:

“Every great shot starts with a smile… and every putt is straight — it’s just your starting line that needs a bit of work.”

In memoriam: Sandra Hitchcock
It is with great sadness that we remember Sandra Hitchcock, a cherished member of Stellenbosch Golf Club and a dear friend to so many within our community.

Sandra was a familiar and much-loved presence on the course, where she spent countless happy hours enjoying the game alongside the ladies. Her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit made every round a little brighter, and her companionship was something truly special to all who had the privilege of playing with her.

Together with her husband, John, Sandra created many treasured memories at the club. Their shared love for golf and the camaraderie of Stellenbosch GC formed a meaningful part of their lives, and her absence will be deeply felt.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to John and her family during this difficult time.

Safe Easter travels
To those heading away, enjoy the break, spend quality time with loved ones, and travel safely.

Keep it down the middle (or at least somewhere findable Peter),
Louis
