| 115th Investec SA Open Championship – A Historic Week at Stellenbosch Golf Club |
| The past week will long be remembered as one of the proudest chapters in the history of Stellenbosch Golf Club. Hosting the 115th Investec South African Open Championship, the club welcomed a sold-out crowd, a world-class field, and an atmosphere that truly showcased the very best of South African golf.
South Africa’s own Casey Jarvis delivered an inspired performance to claim the national open title, finishing on –14 after a superb final round. His victory not only earned him the honour of lifting one of golf’s oldest trophies, but also secured his place in two of the sport’s biggest events:
• The Masters Tournament at Augusta National
• The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale
Jarvis’ win on home soil marks an exciting new chapter in his young career, and we are proud to have witnessed such a special moment at our club.
From the first tee shot to the final putt, Stellenbosch GC came alive.
• The spectator village was a highlight for families, offering entertainment and activities throughout the week.
• The members’ pavilion enjoyed a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere each day, becoming the social heartbeat of the championship.
• Wonderful weather and world-class course conditioning helped create a memorable experience for golfers and visitors alike.
Thank you to every member who supported the event and shared in the excitement. |
Honouring Jean Hugo
Saturday brought an emotional moment as the club proudly awarded Honorary Membership to Jean Hugo, recognising his remarkable contribution to South African golf and his long-standing relationship with Stellenbosch GC. The celebration was warmly received by members and added a very special touch to the week.
The success of this championship reflects the dedication of our staff, members, and volunteers who helped showcase Stellenbosch GC on a global stage. It was a week filled with world-class golf, community spirit, and unforgettable memories.
Thank you for being part of this historic event. We look forward to welcoming you back for many more special moments at our club. |
| Play it like the Pros: Monday after the Investec SA Open |
| What a fantastic day we enjoyed at the Play It Like the Pros event on the Monday following the Investec SA Open. Players had the rare opportunity to take on the exact same course setup the professionals faced on Sunday and it quickly became clear just how demanding championship golf truly is!
The greens were firm, the pins were testing, and my word, that rough was something else. For the professionals, this is just another day’s work under immense pressure. For the rest of us, the only pressure was trying to get the ball back onto the fairway!
It was a wonderful experience that gave everyone a deeper appreciation for the incredible skill level of the world’s best. Not easy by any stretch, but certainly memorable.
Congratulations to all our prize winners, and a special well done to our Champion Golfer Murray von Hirschberg! A well-deserved title after a challenging but unforgettable day on the course. |

| We are proud to announce that the following two members of Stellenbosch GC, Ian Jacobs and Tynan Vermeulen will represent the Boland Golf Union at the 2026 South African Premier Inter-Provincial Tournament, which is scheduled to take place at Maccauvlei Golf Club from 13 to 17 April.
Congratulations to these two players! We wish them all the best with their final preparation for the tournament. |
| How cool is this photo of Ian with the legendary Ernie Els himself at the recent Investec SA Open? In the photo on Ian’s shirt is him as a baby on Ernie’s hip…a brilliant moment and reminder of what Ian has achieved personally in his golfing career this far. |
| In memory of Prof. Johann Laubscher |
| It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of Prof. Johann Laubscher, a cherished member of Stellenbosch Golf Club since 1980. For more than four decades, Johann was a loyal, active, and much-loved presence at our club, someone whose gentle nature, warm spirit, and unwavering love for the game touched everyone who walked the fairways with him.
Stellenbosch GC was not only Johann’s golfing home but also the place where both his sons, Adriaan and Christiaan, first learned the game at his side. Today, they continue his legacy as proud members of the club, carrying forward the many memories, lessons, and moments shared with their father.
Johann was truly a gentle giant — kind, humble, thoughtful, and respected by all who knew him. His absence will be deeply felt across our community.
Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May they find comfort in the lasting impact he made and the many lives he enriched. |
| In memory of Philip Gerber |
 |
| We pay tribute to Philip Gerber, a cherished member of our golfing family and a young man whose journey in the game began here at Stellenbosch GC. From childhood, Philip could be found on our fairways, learning the game he loved under the guidance of his father and alongside his twin brother, Riaan. The two spent countless hours practising, competing, and growing together, forming a bond on the course that reflected the one they shared in life.
Philip’s talent and dedication saw him rise far beyond club level. He represented Stellenbosch GC with pride at the highest league level and went on to compete provincially and nationally, ultimately earning the honour of playing for South Africa. His golfing journey took him across the world, where he touched the lives of many with his character, humility, and genuine love for the sport.
Philip leaves behind a legacy defined not only by his achievements, but by his warmth, kindness, and the positive impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will continue to live on through the memories he created and the lives he enriched.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his mother, father and brother, as well as to his wife and daughter during this very difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing that Philip will always be remembered as part of the fabric of our club community.
Keep it down the middle,
Louis |
